About this project
CPCB is helping the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) by
sorting and identifying macroinvertebrates that were collected in Kansas during
statewide stream surveys. The main objective of these statewide stream
surveys is to document the current range and distribution of stream species.
Other objectives include the establishment of recent baseline data on stream
fishes and macroinvertebrates, which will then be used to enhance stream
management decisions and help in the assessment of overall conditions of
Kansas streams. KDWP projects include the Upper Arkansas and Cimarron
Basin, Lower Arkansas Basin, Rare Fish and Mussels, and REMAP. Noteworthy
specimens and related data are then accessioned into the KBS collection. Finally,
all
of the resulting data are entered into an MS Access database and will
eventually be made available to internet users.
